OFFSHORE GAS DEVELOPMENTS PROLIFERATE WORLDWIDE: Development of seabed gas compression may extend life of existing fields

With U.S. natural gas prices well below long-term levels, it may surprise some to learn that offshore natural gas is one of the fastest-growing market segments worldwide, with some of the largest and most capital-intensive offshore projects in history currently under construction. The shale gas revolution has sent U.S. natural gas prices tumbling and has effectively killed the prospects of large-scale offshore gas developments in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. But the global offshore gas market, which is focused on liquefied natural gas (LNG), is booming with US$302 billion of projects planned and under construction (see Figure 1).
