Regulation of Political Donations by Business Corporations under the Corporation Code of the Philippines

The Corporation Code of the Philippines provides that corporations may make reasonable donations for public welfare, charitable, cultural, scientific, civic or similar purposes in the provision of Corporation Laws of the US. However, it also provides that corporations shall not give donations to any political party or candidate for the purpose of partisan political activity. This provision has originality and it is very significant to rethink the legal problems of political donations by business corporations in Japan. This paper shows the content and meaning of the provision and necessity to adopt such a provision into the Company Law of Japan.
