摘要

The corrosion behavior of pure iron and carbon steel was examined by electrochemical methods in a short-term exposure test. Pure iron was initially more resistant to corrosion than carbon steel but suffered greater corrosion loss than the steel by the end of the six-month test. ESCA analysis and electrochemical measurements showed that the oxide film that formed on the pure iron in the initial stage of the test was more stable and less vulnerable to attack by chloride ions than the film that formed on the carbon steel. On the other hand, after the test, the amount of gamma-FeOOH that easily reduced to magnetite abounded in the rust of the pure iron as compared with the carbon steel.
