THE DISCOVERY OF AN Au (Ag, Pb) DEPOSIT AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE FOR ORE EXPLORATION IN XIONGERSHAN REGION OF HENAN PROVINCE, CHINA

The Xiongershan region is an important polymetallic metallogenic belt in China. The newly discovered Longwangmiao Au (Ag, Pb) desposit is located in the west of Xiongershan region. For searching hidden ore bodies in this area, we have investigated deeply the geological characteristics and induced polarisation anomalies of this deposit. Based on the description of ore body, drilling core, and chemical analysis of core samples, it is suggested that the NE-NNE trend fault belt in the deposit strictly controls the ore body distribution. The deposit belongs to a transitional deposit type between structural altered rock type and quartz vein type. The main prospecting wall rock alterations are mainly pyritisation, silicification, and sericitisation. Analogous analysis of Shagou, Longmendian and Longwangmiao polymetallic deposit, which are located in the same structural unit, shows that ore bodies in all the three deposits were strictly controlled by the NE-NNE fault systems. Ore bodies are thick and stably spread, with a high-grade of the Au and Ag content. Integrated with geophysical studies, we infer that the northeast area along with the NNE fault belt has a good ore-forming potential.
