摘要

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are originally tribal territories and known for different cultures and food habits. Chinese potato/Country potato [Solenostemon rotundifolius (Poir) Morton] is a minor tuber crop grown mainly in the homesteads as vegetable.The tubers are preferred for its peculiar aromatic flavour and taste. Unlike most other vegetables, it possesses good keeping quality. Awareness on the suitable method of cultivation of Coleus poses hindrance in the commercial cultivation in this locality. The cultural practices followed in these Islands are largely based on the experience of the growers. Since, the plant density plays a vital role in enhancing the tuber yield per unit area, an investigation was carried out to standardize the optimum spacing for maximum yield under Island condition.
