At the most recent meeting of the Australian Association of Neurologists (AAN) Council, the current group of Australian and New Zealand Advanced Trainees in Neurology recently raised the issue of part time advanced training as follows:Some states have had insufficient applicants to fill training positions over the last few years, and one proposal to address this situation is to improve opportunities for part time trainees. In 2001 an Australian Medical Association commissioned survey of doctors-in-training found lifestyle and flexible working conditions to be the major factors determining the specialty choice and preferred career path of medical students.1
