As much as I love saltwater fishing in rivers, creeks and estuaries, every now and again I like to get out the heavier gear and visit the freshwater dams. This article is about one of the jewels in the crown of Queensland's impoundment fishing - Borumba. A small lake of only 500 hectares and built to supply water to the Noosa area of the Sunshine Coast for irrigation purposes, the dam traps water flowing from the Yabba and Kingham creeks, which are tributaries of the Mary River. When full, the dam holds around 30,000 megalitres of water, however, the good news is it also holds a load of lure munching fish inhabit this dam and its abundant timber areas.
