A quotation from a contemporary account describes the use of a combination of a solar microscope and an oxy-hydrogen limelight for lecture-demonstrations at the London Mechanics' Institution in 1825. This is a date well before the better-known use of the `perfected' version of the oxy-hydrogen microscope at the Cooper-Cary Old Bond Street exhibition.
