Belgian Endive Receives Favourable Response

Delhi couple grows old-world vegetable in the heart of tobacco country. Crop diversification for Marcel and Rosa Pollens has meant a big change, a change that began 13 years ago when the couple decided to grow Belgian endive as a second crop. The Belgian word for endive is witloof which means white leaf. To indicate that this crop is grown on their farm, the Pollens have placed the highly visible sign WITLOOF on onp of the century old trees lining their driveway. Both Marcel and Rosa were born in Belgium and have eaten Belgian endive for as long as they can remember. It's produced in Belgium in the same quantities as tomatoes and is a member of the chicory family, but not the type of chicory used in coffee.
