Canadian Journal of Cardiology January 2013: Genetics and More

The Canadian Journal of Cardiology (CJQ is entering an exciting phase in January 2013. With this issue, the journal begins to publish monthly, instead of bimonthly as in 2011 and 2012. Monthly publication is a welcome development. It will allow us to produce new and creative features, and to respond to the rising tide of submissions. Our rate of manuscript submission has increased from approximately 400 two years ago, to more than 700 in 2011, to over 1000 in 2012. If we are to keep up with our commitment to prompt publication (electronic publication now occurs after an average of 7.1 weeks from acceptance), we will need the doubling in annual page counts that our move to monthly publication will permit. The increased submission rate is, of course, a challenge for our desire to provide rapid editorial responses for all submitted manuscripts. However, for the moment, we are dealing very well with the increased load: for 841 first submissions handled between January 1 and October 21, 2012, our average time from submission to editorial decision was less than 8 days.
