摘要

Over the past 35 years, Singapore has transformed from a developing country to an affluent island city-state. This transition has been accompanied by changes in chronic disease profiles, i.e. colorectal cancer rates have doubled and breast cancer rates have tripled over the past three decades (Seow et al., 2004). Today, cancer is the commonest cause of death in Singapore, and lung, colorectal and breast cancer are responsible for 40% of all cancer deaths (Seow et al., 2004). Adherence to recommended screening guidelines is low (Yeoh et al., 2006).
