COREY Knabe's neighbors were scratching their heads all season. What was the Kensington, Minn., grain and cattle producer growing in a field along County Road 32? At first, the crop looked like alfalfa, but then it got hairy leaves. And in August, itburst into a riot of slender purple flowers humming with bees. "People kept stopping me in town and asking what that was," Knabe recalls. "A couple of guys told me they went walking in it, trying to figure it out."
