Build the right-sized shop

A SHOP that is too big is nearly as bad as a shop that's too small, says Rob Spiekermeier. You can't get big equipment into a shop that's too small. But a shop that is too big can be a waste of space and money. "All you do is spend more to build, heatand clean it," he says. The shop that Rob and his brother, Steve, built recently strikes a balance for them between the too large and too small. "Sure, we'd like to have it 10 feet wider and longer if we had more room," Rob says, "but it is perfectly adequate and there is room to move around the outside."
