Paper Excellence, a holding firm that has been associated with Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), has shut a 240,000 tonne/ yr newsprint machine at its Howe Sound mill in British Columbia, Canada, as well as integrated thermo-mechanical pulp capacity. The company attributed the decision to sliding newsprint prices and water shortages consequent to a local drought.
