Treatment of [Ni-II(tn)(3)][OTs](2) or aqueous solutions containing nickel(II) p-toluenesulfonate and 1,3-propanediamine (tn) with aqueous K4MIV(CN)(8) center dot 2H(2)O (M-IV = MO, W) affords one-dimensional chains of {[trans-Ni-II(tn)(2)(OH2)][trans-N-II(tn)(2)][(mu-NC)(3)M-IV(CN)(5)] center dot 6H(2)O} stoichiometry (M-IV = Mo, 2; W, 3). An additional three-dimensional network, CS4[CUII(OH2)(4)](2)[Cu-II(NH3)](4) [Mo-IV(CN)(8)](4) center dot 2H(2)O (4), is obtained by treating aqueous solutions Of Cs3MOV(CN)(8) with CUCl2 center dot 2H(2)O in concentrated ammonia. Each network has been characterized via structural and magnetic methods. The distorted square anitprismatic M-IV(CN)(8)(4-) centers are diamagnetic and the paramagnetism of each network originates from the Ni-II and Cu-II centers present. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd.
