Reaction of [CpOs(PPh3)(2)Br] (1) with acetonitrile ligand or monodentate anions yielded complexes of the type [CpOs(PPh3)(2)(CH3CN)](+) (2), [CpOs(PPh3)(2)X], X = CN (3) and NCS (4). Treatment of 1 with NaNO2-HCl in the presence of NH4BF4 yielded the dicationic complex [CpOs(PPh3)(2)(NO)](BF4)(2) (5). Reactions of the complex [CpOs(PPh3)(2)(CH3CN)]BF4 (2) with chelating ligands L-2 yielded cationic complexes of the type [CpOs(L-2)(PPh3)]BF4, where L-2 = 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) (6), 1, 10-phenanthroline (phen) (7). These compounds were characterized by H-1 NMR, P-31 NMR and IR spectral data. The X-ray crystal structure of the complex [CpOs(PPh3)(phen)]BF4 has been determined. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd.
