In [Ni2L2(mu-SCN)(2) (SCN)(2)] (.) 2H(2)O (1), where L = NN-dimetliyl-N'-(pyrid-2-ylmethyl)-ethylenediamine, the two Ni(II) atoms are bridged by two thiocyanate ligands in an end-to-end fashion. The crystal structure of [Ni2L2(mu(1.1)-N-3)(2)(N-3)(2)] (.) CH3OH (2) involve two independent dinuclear [Ni-Ni] units, in which the N-3(-) anions act both as end-on bridging and as terminal ligands. In [Ni2L2(H2O)(2)(mu(2)-C2O4)](.) 2004 (3), two Ni(II) atoms are bridged by a bis-bidentate oxalate dianion. Magnetic susceptibility data were fitted to give J= 3.90 cm(-1), g = 2.03, and theta = 0.3 for 1, J = 1.91 cm(-1) and g = 2.03 for 2, and J = -17.1 cm(-1) and g = 2.00 for 3, respectively. These are characteristics of ferromagnetic interaction between the Ni(II) ions in 1 and 2, and antiferromagnetic interaction in 3. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
