Reactions of [Sn(CH2CH2CN)(4)] and [Sn-2(CH2CH2CN)(6)] with [Rh2Cl2(CO)(4)] give pentanuclear complex [Sn{CH2CH2CNRhCl(CO)(2)}(4)].CH2Cl2 (1) and hexanuclear compound [Sn-2{CH2CH2CNRhCl(CO)(2)}(4)(CH2CH2CN)(2)].CHCl3 (2). In acetone solution complex 2 slowly decomposes giving [Rh-6(CO)(16)] (3). X-ray structures of the compounds have been determined. In complexes 1 and 2 in the solid state square planar entities [NRhCl(CO)(2)] relatively strongly interact giving one-dimensional and two-dimensional compounds. In complex 2 the ditin moiety possesses an unexpected eclipsed conformation. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
