CORRELATION CURVES FOR EQUATORIAL AXIAL INTERACTIONS

Metal-ligand distances for hexacoordinate complexes show a mutual interrelation manifested in the fact that with increasing axial distances the equatorial ones decrease and vice versa. These R(a) vs R(e) dependences have been registered for certain chromophores and also for hexafluoro, hexachloro, hexanitro and hexaaqua complexes. Based on the anharmonic shape of the adiabatic potential surface, a theoretical analysis yields the form of the R(a) vs R(e) dependence which, in the most simple form, is a hyperbolic function.
