摘要

The reaction of [Ru(tpy)Cl_3] (tpy = 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine with qpy (qpy = 2,2':6',2":6",2''':6''',2""-quinquepyridine) or substituted qpy ligands yields two species. One product is the [RuL(tpy)]~(2+) cation which contains hypodentate qpy ligands in which a terminal tpy domain is bonded to the metal and a non-coordinated bpy group is present. Detailed ~1H NMR studies on these complexes and the model species [Ru(qtpy)(tpy)]~(2+) (qtpy = 2,2':6',2":6",2'''-quinquepyridine)confirm the formulation and reveal unusual conformational properties. The second complexes contain [(tpy)Ru(#mu#-L)Ru(tpy)Cl]~(3+) cations and the parent complex [(tpy)Ru(#mu#-qpy)Ru(tpy)Cl][PF_6]_3 has been structurally characterized.
