A Chemical-Free Solution for Odor and Corrosion Control in Municipal Sewerage Collection Systems

THE INITIAL PROBLEM: A progressive seaside community of approximately 100,000 residents in Northern California was experiencing extreme corrosion and odor from hydrogen sulfide (H_2S) emissions from a particular force main sewerage transport line. The force main traveled through upper scale neighborhoods including several inverts, where toxic and corrosive sewer gases formed and were detected by homeowners, causing serious odor complaints. Therefore, the county operating the collection system was required to feed a costly and potentially hazardous chemical.
