Attempts to shed lights on morphogenetic actions through mathematical modeling have been going on at least since the pioneering work of Turing [9] (see for instance [5] for a more recent overview). The models are based on reaction-diffusion systems and have enjoyed a considerable popularity due to their ability to reproduce some of the patterns observed in living organisms.
