An evaluation model for assessing MSW planning capability of local authorities: The case of Thailand

摘要

The total quantity of waste generated has increased by 10% over the past 10 years (from 37,102 tons per day in 1997 to 40,332 tons per day in 2007). Of that total, half was generated in the Bangkok Metropolitan (21%) and urban areas (34%) while another half (45%) was generated in rural areas or outside municipal areas . The average rate of MSW generation in Thailand is 0.6 kg/capita/day (1.5 kg/capita/day in Bangkok, 0.7-1.0 kg/capita/day in municipal areas and 0.4 kg/capita/day outside municipal areas). In 2007, the collection efficiency was 60% overall, 100% in BKK, 70-80% in municipal areas, and 20-30% outside municipal areas. However, only 36% of the collected waste was properly managed through recycling, composting, incineration, and sanitary disposal.
