Municipal solid waste generation and management practices in Varanasi, India

摘要

The city of Varanasi is situated in the extreme eastern part of Uttar Pradesh in India. Varanasi is the most populated city in Uttar Pradesh. Here, there is a dramatic increase in urbanization. The deteriorating sanitary conditions and solid waste generation problems are very alarming for the future of the city. The adaptation of modern lifestyles has increased the per capita generation of solid waste. Low investment and the inability of the local bodies to raise independent revenues are the prime reasons for poor MSW management practices in the city.
