The question can be asked “which engineer worked on more tall buildings in Southern Californianthan anyone else?” Some might answer it would be George Brandow, Roy Johnston, John A.nMartin, Robert Englekirk, Paul Greenfield or Nabih Youssef, but they would all be wrong. Thenanswer would be surprising as that engineer is LeRoy Crandall. No, he is not a structural engineernbut a geotechnical engineer who made it possible for the great structural engineers in SouthernnCalifornia to practice their craft on the signature buildings that define the skyline of metropolitannLos Angeles and surrounding cities.
