The phrase 'special relationship' was introduced by Winston Churchill in 1946 in his 'Iron Curtain' speech in Fulton, Missouri. In Architecture and the 'Special Relationship': The American Influence on Post-War British Architecture, Murray Fraser and Joe Kerr pursue a post-colonial theory. They claim -probably correctly - that theirs is 'the first architecture book to problematise the issue by examining how even a dominant industrialised nation such as Britain was subject to colonising processes'.
