In all these years of modelling I have never flown a model with two engines. Two electric motors, yes, but never two engines until I recently removed the two Speed 600 motors from my Splash flying boat and instead fitted a pair of ASP 12 engines (each 2 cc) in a pair of built up balsa cowlings, each with a 4 oz fuel tank and a micro servo for the throttle. Thus equipped Splash weighs 1800 g or 4 pounds. There is something about that harmonic thrum of two engines running almost, but not quite, in sync! They sound just great. With Master 7" x 6" props both engines ran flat out at just over 13000 rpm, and I set the idle to a fast 7000 as I wanted a reliable idle. Take-off was no problem and the model performed beautifully, with effortless loops, rolls, bunts and inverted flight. With that fast idle the model was reluctant to descend so I trimmed it back to about 5000 rpm, which still proved reliable.
