Best practices in cycleway lighting design

As one of the solutions to climate change and traditional resource shortage challenges, low carbon emission lifestyles and technologies are encouraged worldwide. Christchurch, along with many other cities in the world, is progressively building its own cycleway network connecting the central city to the suburbs, shopping areas, businesses, schools and local attractions. All the planned thirteen major cycle routes will be illuminated with high efficiency LED lighting. This will not only make the city less energy dependent but also more eco-friendly. This paper talks about practical methods of cycleway illuminating, via lighting standard selection, calculation model creation, lighting performance parameters, safety, glare control and solar installation cost analysis etc.
