We appreciate the discussers' interest in the work as well as their comments, which, we understand, do not dispute the main point of the paper.rnCurrent expressions for equilibrium scour depth often show strong disagreements. The differences might derive from uncertainties associated, for example, with the difficulties in achieving equilibrium conditions in laboratory or to the possible influence of some neglected dimensionless groups. Noise may also come from theoretical inconsistencies in the dimensional analysis.rnThe aim of the authors' paper was to point out that the use of the flow intensity, defined as the ratio of the approach mean velocity on the approach critical velocity, is not appropriate in usual clear-water laboratory experiments (where, typically, d_(50)≤ 6 mm). Summarizing, for clear water uniform and steady conditions in a very wide channel, considering uniform sediment, a cylindrical pier, and assuming viscous effects as negligible, the local scour is given by Eqs. (15) or (19), but not by Eq. (18). In other words, the flow intensity should be replaced by another dimensionless group that does not introduce viscosity.
