Shuohuang Railway

About 200km south of the Daqin Line lies another heavy-haul operation - the 590km Shuohuang Railway. This double-track electrified line, which links Shenchi in the west of Shanxi province with Huanghua Port, has also witnessed a sharp increase in coal traffic since it opened in May 2000, and is now trying to increase capacity.rnThe line carried 134.8 million gross tonnes last year, well in excess of its design capacity. According to Shuohuang Railway's president, Mr Xue Jilian, by 2008 it had carried an accumulated total of 660 million gross tonnes, generating operating revenues of Yuan 42.26 billion ($US 6.2 billion) and a net profit of Yuan 13.56 billion.
