Housing Groups Unveil Proposals to Improve Tax Credit, Bond Programs

Housing groups are seeking a number of legislative changes to improve the low-income housing tax credit and tax-exempt bond programs this year, including enactment of an emergency housing tax credit (EHTC) program and authority to convert unused private activity bonds to housing tax credits. The Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition (AHTCC) is pushing the EHTC plan, which would create a separate supply of tax credits for the replacement or reconstruction of affordable housing damaged or destroyed by national disasters, according to Francine Friedman, AHTCC legislative counsel.
