Trust the process: an analysis of the impact of NPQICL on the universities contracted to deliver the programme during the first year of the national rollout

This article is one of a series of articles to evaluate the National Professional Qualification in Integrated Centre Leadership (NPQICL) during a national rollout in 2005 in England. It explores the experiences of the tutors who delivered the programme. The informants were eight academic tutors who teach in seven universities and four tutors who were NPQICL graduates recruited to deliver NPQICL in seven of the fifteen learning communities in England. The article examines the tutors' experiences and considers whether delivering NPQICL influenced their behaviour as adult educators. It also analyses the potential impact of the NPQICL programme on wider university climate and culture. The article concludes that the NPQICL programme had a significant impact on the tutors, who have taken their new learning into their teaching and leadership practice within their universities. The article offers an analysis to inform the recruitment of NPQICL tutors in the future. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Dies Papier ist Teil einer Serie, die die Evaluation des Programms zur nationalen beruflichen Qualifikation von Leitungen in integrierten Zentren (National Professional Qualification in Integrated Centre Leadership NPQICL) behandeln, das 2005 in England gelaufen ist. Untersucht werden die Erfahrungen der Tutoren, die das Programm durchgefhrt haben. Informanten waren acht akademische Tutoren, die an sieben Universitten lehren und vier Tutoren, die innerhalb des Projektes ausgebildet worden sind, um das Programm in sieben der 15 lernenden Gemeinschaften in England anzubieten. Das Papier untersucht die Erfahrungen der Tutoren in Hinsicht darauf, ob das Durchfhren von NPQICL ihr Verhalten als Erwachsenenbildner beeinflusst hat. Este documento explora las experiencias de tutores que impartieron el programa. Los informantes fueron ocho profesores acadmicos que ensean en siete universidades y cuatro tutores graduados del programa NPQICL, los cuales fueron empleados para impartir el programa NPQICL en siete de las quince comunidades educativas de Inglaterra. El documento examina las experiencias de los tutores y considera si ensear NPQICL influenci su comportamiento como educadores de adultos. Este tambin analiza el impacto potencial del programa NPQICL en un entorno y cultura universitaria ms amplio. El documento concluye que el programa NPQICL tuvo un impacto significativo en los tutores quienes utilizaron sus nuevas enseanzas en su prctica de liderazgo y en sus patrones de enseanza dentro de las universidades. El documento ofrece un anlisis para informar acerca de la contratacin de profesores NPQICL en el futuro.
