Granite Protrusions in Zones of Intraplate Activization of South Mongolia

Among the series of linear structures that penetrate the Earth's continental crust, one can distinguish narrow and elongated zones that are characterized by intense structural and compositional transformation of rocks, subvertical bedding of plane elements, and en echelon position of segments and fault boundaries. These structures are important tectonic elements of the Earth's crust. Depending on the emphasis of study . upon particular aspects of the structure and evolution of the Earth's crust, different authors consider these structures in different ways as "shear zones," "collision sutures," or "deep faults."
