Temperature-shiftexperimentswereperformedonfiveNotch-locusgenotypeswithtemperature-sensitivephenotypes.Theresultsshowthattemperature-sensitiveperiods(TSPs)forlethalitymayoccuratanydevelopmentalstage:(1)Ng11Ng11;Dp51b7havingashortembryonicTSPforlethality,(2)Ax16172Na?’40havingasecond-instarTSPforlethality,and(3)Na?’103fanowithalong,possiblypolyphasic,TSP,beginningintheembryonicstageandendinginthepupalstage.Ontheotherhand,TSPsforadultmorphologicalphenotypesappeartoberestrictedtothethirdlarvalinstar:(1)Ax16172Na?’40havingthird-instarTSPsforwingveingappingandocellarbristleloss,and(2)Na?’103splhavingthird-instarTSPsforeyefacetdisarray,wingnotching,bristlenumbervariation,andfusionoftarsalsegments.ThesignificanceoftheseresultsisdiscussedintermsoftheroleoftheNotchlocusindevelopment.
