Segregation of the Pi alleles M1,M2,F and Z in a large pedigree

A large pedigree is reported in which the Pi alleles Z, F, M1 and M2, were segregating. The Z gene entered the pedigree four times in spite of the fact that no close inbreeding was found. Serum levels of α1-antitrypsin and some data on lung disease are presented.
