Rooting of cuttings of Senecio greyi: Effect of IBA in combination with DMSO, benomyl, and captan

Abstract Two fungicides, benomyl and captan were tested alone and in combination with IBA and DMSO for their ability to stimulate rooting of cuttings of Senecio greyi. Captan had no significant effect on rooting, and benomyl delayed root initiation and reduced root growth. A ‘quick dip’ treatment of 0.4% IBA resulted in rapid and prolific adventitious root formation. DMSO was not phytotoxic to cuttings of S. greyi and promoted uniform and prolific root development, especially when combined with IBA. However, DMSO increased the inhibitory effect of benomyl on root formation.
