Review of the Philomidinae Ruschka (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Perilampidae), with description of three new species

The subfamily Philomidinae is an odd group of Chalcidoidea currently placed in Perilampidae, although their bizarre morphology has suggested placement in a variety of other chalcidoid families. The genera of Philomidinae are reviewed, and a phylogenetic hypothesis proposed using an analysis of 22 morphological characters. Based on these results, a new genus is proposed, Vidlinus n.gen., withtwo resulting new combinations, Vidlinus abercornensis (Risbec) n.comb. and Vidlinus metallicus (Risbec) n.comb. Three new speciesare described, Aperilampus rabeharisoae Heraty, n.sp. (Madagascar), Philomides hamooniae Heraty, Derafshan, & Ghafouri Moghaddamn.sp. (Iran), and Philomides lasallei Heraty, n.sp. (Madagascar). Chalcura niayensis Risbec, 1957, is transferred to Aperilampus n.comb.An identifcation key and catalog to the known species of Philomidinae is provided. The frst record of Philomides potentially ovipositingonto fowerbuds of Solanum is recorded.
