Positive Progress Muted by Politics

The year started on a positive note in 2013. Construction firms in last year's Annual Report & Forecast were hopeful. The election was behind us, and markets were anticipating a return to the business at hand, namely growing the economy. How quickly those hopes were tabled. Although construction activity has improved, the general economy has moped through 2013, ending with the cloud of Obamacare keeping confidence muted and the ability to look forward dimmed. Construction markets thrive on backlog and projects that take years to plan, and the country just isn't there yet.
