Purpose - 1 he purpose of this column is to address how one academic library is surviving budgets cuts with assistance from a Friends group. Design/methodology/approach - This is a viewpoint column Findings - If your library is facing a substantial budget cut this year, approaching your Friends group for assistance is a worthwhile endeavor. Originality/value - The paper describes how a strong connection of the Scarborough Society with the Shepherd University Foundation has created a unique and successful Friends group.
