摘要

The role of oxygenate additives, namely propylene glycol and 2-butoxyethanol, with Jatropha biodiesel on the performance and emission characteristics of a compression ignition engine is experimentally investigated. The studies are carried out on an experimental setup that consists of a compression ignition direct injection four-stroke engine, electric loading device, AVL DiGas analyser and AVL smoke meter. The whole investigation is divided into three phases; the performance and emission characteristics of the engine are established for the propylene glycol blended biodiesel and 2-butoxyethanol blended biodiesel in the first and second phase, respectively, and in the third phase the engine performance and emission characteristics are found for the mixture of propylene glycol and 2-butoxyethanol blended biodiesel. The results reveal that the tested additives have substantial positive impact on the performance and emission characteristics on compression ignition engines.
