Use of at least one ketone compounds (I) as a fuel additive to reduce the fuel consumption of diesel engines, is claimed. Use of at least one ketone compounds of formula (R1-C(R2)(R3)-C(=O)-C(R4)(R5)-R6) (I) as a fuel additive to reduce the fuel consumption of diesel engines, is claimed. R1-R6 : H or 1-20C-alkyl, 5-8C-cycloalkyl or 2-20C-alkenyl, with the proviso that maximum three variables of R1-R6 are H, and the remaining variables of R1-R6 are alkyl, cycloalkyl or alkenyl, where one of R1-R3 together with R4-R6 forms a mono- or polycyclic ring.
