To the editor, I lost both legs at the hip and right arm to a land mine explosion that evaporated both legs and shred my arm just below the shoulder in Vietnam in 1969. I was told that I would never walk again since I had no leg stumps. A dedicated and persistent VA prosthetist scavenged leg prosthetics and devised a low er trunk socket with attached modified hip joints, machined to use in an unorthodox assembly. Together with that and a modi fied prosthetic arm with modified crutch I was able to stand and walk with a swing-through gait and nothing has changed. Hi-tech prosthetic leg developments have been limited to those with stumps.
