地理环境是人类生存和发展的基本条件。在人类历史上，由于不同地理环境因素的影响，文明的呈现方式也千姿百态。就中国而言，负陆面海的地理特征不仅孕育了深厚的陆地文明，而且也锻造了辉煌的海洋文明。远古先民在走向海洋的征程中不仅促进了航海工具日益革新，而且推动了沿岸港口和海洋经济的勃兴，并为我国古代海疆的形成奠定了坚实的历史基础。%The geographical environment is the postulate for human survival and development.In hu-man history,civilization has assumed various forms due to the impact of diverse geographical environment factors.As for China,its seaward geographical features have not only led to its profound terrestrial civili-zation but also forged its brilliant maritime civilization.In their journeys to the ocean,ancient Chinese an-cestors have not only promoted the increasingly innovative navigational tools and facilitated the flourish of coastal harbors and marine economy but also laid a solid historical foundation for the coastal areas and ter-ritorial seas of ancient China.
