WATER QUALITY MODELING OF BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICIES TO SUPPORT REHABILIATION OF HISTORIC ECHO PARK LAKE IN LOS ANGELES

Historic Echo Park Lake is one of the City of Los Angeles’ crown jewels of parks. The City’sProposition O Program provided the funding for a major rehabilitation of the lake, and Black &Veatch was selected by the City to conduct the design of the rehabilitation project. One of themajor objectives of the project was to improve water quality in the lake to meet the numericalwater quality objectives established by the California Regional Water Quality Board. Theobjective of this paper is to describe the stormwater and lake water quality modeling that wasconducted to determine which of the proposed BMP improvements would best meet the waterquality objectives within the project budget and expectations of the community stakeholders.
