Restenosis is termed as the reobstruction of an artery following angioplasty, it has been understood that the proliferation of smooth muscle cells and the thrombosis were the main mechanisms of the disease. But systemic therapies targeted at these features have not been completely successful. The main problem is that systemic therapies could not maintain efficacious drug levels at the local artery wall without systemic toxic reaction. The problem suggests the need for a drug carrier that provide a sustained release of drug in the local arterial wall. Nanoparticle(NP) could be a promising dosage form for the local therapy of restenosis for its several advantages. In this paper, study was carried out to understand the determinants of optimal uptake of NP by the arterial wall.
