The performed investigations showed that the degree of E.coli removal from model waters with different pH, alkalinity and ionic strength values using aluminium sulfate (AS) and basic aluminium sulfate (BAS) coagulants can vary from 99% (2 orders) to 99.999% (5 orders). We have found a correlation between colloid-chemical properties of coagulants hydrolysis product particles (HPP) and the efficiency of the cell removal. The best performance of aluminium salts is observed at high values of the HPP electrokinetic potential and their total adsorbing surface area and low values of hydration of their surface. By choosing the optimal parameters of waters to be purified using AS and BAS, a significant increase in the E.coli cells removal can be achieved. This work was fulfilled in the frame of the INTAS project # 00493.
