This publication presents the use of an automatic system in ventilation stations as a support in the process of generating cold for the needs of central air conditioning. The article presents the use of a fan station installation using atmospheric air to cool water. The free cooling system is part of the refrigeration system that is used to produce chilled water in absorption and compressor coolers. The system works when the air temperature is lower than the temperature of the water returning from the underground part of the installation to the cooling system. The effective operation of the free cooling installation takes place from autumn to spring. The system switches on automatically when the air temperature drops below 15°C. In addition, if the air temperature drops below 1.5°C, one of the system's cooling lines is turned off and the free cooling installation takes over the role of the entire cooling system. The average cooling capacity of the installation in winter is about 1.5 MW. The use of this technology generates considerable savings in electricity and heat consumption, which would have to be used to produce cold.
