Grand Bayou Sinkhole-An Overview

In August of 2012, following months of ground tremors, a sinkhole developed on company property near Bayou Corne. The sinkhole formed near the western edge of the Napoleonville Salt Dome, in close proximity to an abandoned brine production cavern operated by Texas Brine Company. Over the past 13 months, State and Parish officials along with scientific and engineering experts from around the world have worked closely with Texas Brine in coordinating an emergency response. This talk will provide an overview of events leading up to formation of the sinkhole and its current status, including a description of the various methods used to measure, monitor, and otherwise investigate this unprecedented incident.
