In recent years, DNA has become increasingly promising as a target candidate for drug discovery along with proteins. Extensive progress has been made in developing sequence selective low molecular weight ligands, demonstrated by Naphthyridine carbamate dimer (NCD) selective binding towards 5’-(CGG)-3’ trinucleotide G-G mismatches. Though, majority of such compounds has high sequence selectivity, owing to heavy reliance on weak intermolecular interactions, lacks stability upon binding to the target. In contrast, much of the reported DNA- targeting metallo-organic complexes, including arene-ruthenium half sandwich complex described here, forms highly stable metal-DNA adducts via coordination bonding but lacks greatly in sequence specificity.
