Various internal and external heat sources and sinks lead to a deformation of the machine structure and therefore Tool-Center-Point (TCP) deviations which in turn directly affects machining accuracy. In the past many different methods have been developed to reduce those thermally induced displacements. The paper describes an approach and first results for a volumetric compensation method based on property models using control internal data like power and position of the motion axes to calculate axes-load dependent TCP deviations.
